Jay-Z vs. Jimi Hendrix - A Watchtower Problem

I'm usually really into mashups/remixes of songs. I have the Grey Album by Dangermouse (Jay-Z and The Beatles mashed up), all of the Ratatat remixes, and more mashups that I get from friends who find them around the internet. I also have a distinct opinion on remixes and mashups: they either ruin the songs completely, or they make them better. There is almost no middle ground. And usually for every 20 mashups/remixes i listen to, I only really like 7 or 8, but when I find them they're usually really good.

When I found a Jay-Z/Jimi Hendrix mashup on YouTube, I was intrigued. While Jay-Z isn't my favorite rapper, he's still really good and remixes involving him are usually the best. This is probably because he released all of his songs off The Black Album without instrumentals for free to encourage remixing. And Jimi Hendrix is, well... Jimi Hendrix. "A Watchtower Problem" is a very good combination of the two, a song remixed with Jay-Z's "99 Problems" and Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower." The man who remixed it, Nasty P, is a hip hop DJ from Edinburgh, Scotland. He is self described as "Edinburgh’s very own one man hip-hop institution" due to the lack of hip-hop influence in Scotland.

I really enjoyed this remix because Nasty P enhanced "99 Problems" by Jay-Z yet still kept Hendrix's song a very big part of the overall remix. He also doesn't make either of the songs become old or repetitive and keeps the remix fresh throughout the whole thing. Its a very good remix and I'd encourage anyone who like either of these artists to check it out.

Wow, Jay-Z is always one of the best rapper's of all time. With Hendrix?! this remix was like candy for my ears. Good find!

I love Jay-z remixes like the album he did with Lincoln Park and the Beatles. I think the fusion of Jay-z and Jimi Hendrix is going to be awesome.
