"Why Vista's DRM is Bad For You

by Bruce Schneier

Schneier analyzes the faults with Windows vista having digital right management, DRM which is incorporated into the program. DRM has been features added into vista in order to prevent further pirating of music and movie downloads. Yet this feature has been found as harmful for the computer, in the sense that it causes technical troubles, slows the speed of the computer and does not properly provide proper security for your computer. DRM is a feature that main purpose is to monitor the activities of a user and prevent or distinguish the illegal activity that some users participate in like downloading movies and music illegally. By doing so this program also does not permit and monitors the right of individuals to have certain free use.

DRM was a feature added because the entertainment industry was pressing program creators to conjure a program that would prevent music and movie pirating yet this feature was proven to be ineffective because illegal down loaders found alternatives along with breaking through DRM. DRM has been also counterproductive for the entertainment industry as well as the consumers in the sense that, the entertainment industry are loosing money to company like Apple; who itune store decides what the prices should be for music and movies without approval from the entertainment industry, the consumers are at a lost in the sense that decent people who do not partake in illegal activities are having their computers constantly being monitored by DRM.DRM is a feature that is unnecessary and disable the free use of individuals it is a feature that should be removed even though mircosoft has no intension of doing so.
